BURNETT COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced Delores Corbine, of Danbury, WI, for convictions stemming from an October 2021 Burnett County one-vehicle rollover crash.

Corbine was charged with two counts of Class I Felony Neglecting a Child; Misdemeanor Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated With Minor Child in the Vehicle; and Misdemeanor Obstructing an Officer following the investigation into the rollover crash.

Burnett County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call regarding a crash on October 15, 2021. The caller stated that an adult female, an adult male, and two small children had been in the gray truck that crashed.

Deputies responded to the scene of the crash and located a gray truck lying on the driver’s side in the ditch. Deputies found two child car seats and a diaper bag containing diapers inside the truck. Near the crashed truck, Deputies observed a child’s pacifier or “Nuk” on the ground by an empty alcohol container. Witnesses stated that the truck had been traveling eastbound when it appeared to lose control and slide into the westbound lane of traffic before traveling into the ditch and rolling over.

Deputies determined that the adult occupants of the vehicle had been Richard Wylie, of Webb Lake, WI; and Delores Corbine, of Danbury, WI. Witnesses stated that the two had fled from the scene on foot. Deputies attempted to locate them but initially were unsuccessful.

Burnett County Dispatch received multiple calls in the hours following the crash from individuals stating that Corbine and Wylie had been spotted on Red Fox Trail, then seen rowing a boat across Bass Lake, running down a logging road towards Tower Road, and then flagging down drivers on State Road 35 near the Fish Bowl bar.

Several hours after the crash, Law Enforcement located Corbine and Wylie with two small children, under the age of 3, in the ditch near State Road 35 just north of State Road 77. It was after dark by that time, rainy and cold, with temperatures around 40 degrees, however, Corbine, Wylie, and the children were not dressed appropriately for the weather. Neither child had a jacket or hat or socks on their feet. Corbine was wearing a cut-up shirt, shorts, and no shoes or socks. Wylie was wearing jeans, a shirt, and shoes.

The children were medically cleared by emergency medical personnel and released to family members. Corbine and Wylie were both transported to Burnett Medical Center for medical care before being transported to the Burnett County Jail.

Online circuit court records show that Corbine appeared most recently on June 27, 2022, regarding her charges. The Hon. Melissia Mogen accepted Corbine’s plea of Guilty to one count of Class I Felony Neglecting a Child. The remaining charges against Corbine were dismissed and/or read in, including a charge of Misdemeanor Criminal Damage to Property that was filed against Corbine in a separate court case, and two citations charging her with Failure to Keep Vehicle Under Control, and Failure of Operator to Notify Police of Accident.

Judge Mogen ordered Corbine to serve 3 years of probation on a withheld sentence. Conditions of probation will require Corbine to maintain absolute sobriety and gainful employment; complete an alcohol and other drug assessment; and comply with any treatment that may be recommended including participation and completion of the outpatient program she is currently engaged in.

Wylie was charged with two counts of Class I Felony Neglecting a Child; and one count of Misdemeanor Obstructing an Officer. He appeared most recently on June 29, 2022, and entered pleas of guilty to one count of Class I Felony Neglecting a Child and his charge of Misdemeanor Obstructing an Officer. He is scheduled to appear again in September 2022 for a sentencing hearing.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
