Climate change and increased eco-consciousness is something on the uptick not just in India but globally. Of interest is how most Indian mothers are also increasingly using that as a purchasing influencing factor in even things like diapers for their little ones. There are additional factors like relatively higher presence of chemicals in disposable diapers, the higher possibility of children developing rashes etc. in them etc. which are driving them towards reusable diapers in the past couple of years. Fueling this consciousness and riding that wave is Superbottoms which calls itself as a brand for mothers by mothers from mothers.
SuperBottoms is the brainchild of Pallavi Utagi, a mother who could not find an eco-friendly, or even baby-friendly diaper for her child and decided to create one herself in 2016. The brand today, is a collaborative effort with a core team of parents, who have been striving to find the healthiest solutions to their babies' diapering needs. They also stand for responsible and equal parenting which besides sustainability are the core ethos of the company.
Each reusable, cotton diaper from Superbottoms has 17 layers of cotton and a microfleece lining and can stay dry all night. An innovative buttoning system (having a patent pending on it) ensures one-size-fits-all functionality and can fit a child up to the age of three years. And they can be washed, re-used, and repeated up to 300 times.
“When we started out, people were not aware of the product’s potential as there were no strong players in the cloth diapering category back then. So, the onus was on us to inform and educate our customers, a practice we follow even today,” says Utagi.
It’s the only reusable diaper brand in India to be certified by CPSIA as being safe for babies.
