Several groups in the Louisville Metro are doing their part to help mothers in need with a diaper drive this month.

Throughout March, people can drop off new diapers at City Hall.

Donations will go through St. Bernadette Diaper Bank, the only one of its kind in Kentucky. The organization works to address the diaper need in Louisville, which the founder said causes other burdens for women.

"It affects women's bonds with their babies when they don't have the diapers, there's educational gaps," said Deanna Hornback, St. Bernadette Diaper Bank founder. "So our goal is to make sure every baby has diapers and our motto is one diaper is one diaper we wouldn't have had."

The group is most in need of newborn diapers, size five and six.

The Metro Council Women's Caucus and the Louisville Metro Office for Women are teaming up with the organization for the diaper drive. It all coincides with March also being Women's History Month.

"We are committed to removing barriers to women's full economic and social wellbeing," said Gretchen Hunt, Office for Women executive administrator.

According to city leaders, St. Bernadette supplied more than 10,000 diapers to 13 organizations last year. And that still wasn't enough to meet the needs.

Unopened diapers can be dropped off on the first floor of City Hall at 601 W. Jefferson St.

Those who can't drop off diapers but want to donate money can do so online here.
