Hale County Soil and Water District and 4-H members giving away seedlings at Gebo's Wednesday

Workforce Solutions South Plains will host a virtual job fair on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Employers will be on hand to review resumes, visit with applicants, schedule interviews and discuss job requirements.              

The Hale County Soil and Water District and members of Hale County 4-H will be set up at Gebo’s on Wednesday distributing Aromatic Sumac seedlings. The representatives will start giving away the 100 seedlings for free at 4:30 p.m. These shrubs are fast-growing, disease-free and drought-tolerant. The leaves are colored blue-green in the spring and turn a mixture of red burgundy and purple in the fall. They also produce yellow flowers. A Love Fund has been set up at Happy State Bank to help the Plainview family who lost their home in a fire on March 14. The family is in need of clothing and other items. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2022 Teacher Externship Program through Workforce Solutions South Plains. The Teacher Externship Program is a collaboration between employers across the South Plains, the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance and school districts across the region. The five-day experience will include orientation, three days of on-site hands-on learning and final presentation day. There are 200 openings for the experience. Participants will earn a $700 stipend. Covenant Health has made another adjustment to its visitation policies. Masks are required at each campus for everyone 2 years or older. Visitor guidelines are different at each regional campus. Non-COVID patients can have four visitors per 24-hour-period at Covenant Health Plainview and COVID patients can have up to two visitors per day.

The National Ranching Heritage Center will host Trolley Tours through October. The tours will start at 10 a.m. every Thursday through October. Tickets to ride are $5 and can be purchased at Cogdell’s General Store inside the main gallery of the center. These tours are a perk made possible by The CH Foundation.

The city wants your opinion regarding a master plan for parks, recreation and open space. The plan will help guide investments for the park system over the next five to 10 years. All interested citizens are encouraged to fill out the online survey by March 31 at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PROS-Plainview or by scanning the QR code on posters and graphics around town. The Plainview Dance Club now meets on the first, second and fourth Thursday of the month at the Elks Lodge, 908 N. I-27 off the service road. The groups meets from 6:30-9 p.m. There is live entertainment each night. No smoking is allowed and there are no snacks. Admission is $5 for members, $7 for non-members and $10 for one-year memberships.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church will host fish fry events throughout the Lenten season. The last event is set for April 8. Each event will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fish plates are $10. The event will be drive-thru only.

Whiskey Myers will perform at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences on March 24. Whiskey Meyers is a mixed-genre band that has appeared on music charts for country and americana/folk, rock and all-genre. The band has sold out 95% of its headlining shows and played over 2,500 live shows since emerging in 2007. Prices range from $30 to $55 plus taxes and fees. The Plainview Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet is set for March 25. This year’s guest speaker is Dennis Swanberg. Tickets are on sale for $30. Weekends BBQ will cater a meal of prime rib and pork tenderloin.

Kin Faux will perform in Plainview on March 31 at the Fair Theatre. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the concert will start at 7 p.m. Presale tickets are $10 and will go up to $15 on the day of the show. Those interested can purchase tickets through Eventbrite.com.

Zach Williams will make a stop in Lubbock to perform at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences on April 3. Steve Burns, the original Blue’s Clues host, will speak at the Jack B. Kelley Legacy Hall at West Texas A&M University, co-hosted by the Office of Student Engagement, Enrollment and Success. The event will start at 7 p.m. on April 5. Admission is free but seating is available on a first come, first served basis. The speech will be livestreamed.

Single ticket sales for the Broadway at The Buddy Holly Hall Series are now on sale. The series includes: “Jersey Boys” on April 4-5; and “Anastasia” on June 20-21. The season’s add-on or swap-a-show option will be “Rent 25th Anniversary Farewell Tour” Show.

A celebration is planned to mark the completion of the Downtown Streetscape project. The event is scheduled for April 8. Festivities are set to begin at 5 p.m. with the official ribbon cutting. Activities will continue with a wine walk, food trucks and music provided by Tanner Lane. The event is anticipated to wrap by about 7 p.m.

John Crist will perform at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences on April 9. Crist will bring his “Fresh Cuts Comedy Tour” to the venue for a 7 p.m. show. American Cultural Exchange Services is looking for volunteer families to host a foreign exchange student for the 2022-2023 school year. Students will come from Japan, Korea, Asia, South American and Europe. American Cultural Exchange Services is a non-profit educational organization designated by the U.S. Department of State. The students will experience life in America and will get a feel for what it’s like being a part of an American family and an American High School. Students are not required to have their own room and will share in doing chores and helping around the house as needed. They are medically covered and will have their own spending money for personal needs. Married couples, single adults, widowed or divorced individuals can host a student. Tickets to see Justin Moore at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts in November go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. The Reeves Brothers will join him as special guests on tour. South Plains Community Action is offering mortgage assistance to income-eligible households impacted by COVID-19. The program will help qualifying households to pay up to six consecutive months of full and/or partial mortgage payments, including mortgage arrears, according to a flyer from SPCAA. At least one of those months of mortgage coverage can be used to cover a future monthly payment. Households that qualify must be in Hale, Bailey, Lamb, Floyd, Hockley, Cochran, Dickens, Crosby, Garza, Lynn, Motley, Terry and Yoakum. South Plains Community Action is based out of Levelland. Covenant Health Plainview hosts the cancer survivors prayer support group “We Fight to Live” from 7-8 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month in Room B. The sessions will consist of a monthly topic and presenter, and a structured segment, allowing time for group sharing. The support group is open to those with a cancer diagnosis and anyone affected by their diagnosis. The group is led by Andrea Ingram, a cancer survivor, as well as Sherry Wall, hospital mission services. There is no charge for the group.
