The Life Choices Pregnancy Support Center has been available for area residents from all walks of life and for varying reasons since 2013.
Life Choices, located at 66 Sunrise Park Drive in Winchester, wants everyone to feel welcome and wrapped in love, encouragement and support in their journey in life, whether coming from a place of peace or of uncertainty. In addition to the Winchester location, a Life Choices Center was opened in Coffee County in 2016 at 300 W. Fort St., Manchester, and in Grundy County at 38 S. Industrial Park Road, Coalmont, in 2018.
Life Choices’ support is offered in a way that honors clients and meets them without judgment regardless of race, income, age, nationality or religious affiliation. All of their services are completely free to all clients regardless of what led them to the center.
“We hope to educate our clients so they can have the chance to make choices they are proud of,” Life Choices Franklin County Director Elizabeth Padgett said. “Every life is precious and deserves a chance at a lifetime, even if they are not expected.”
Some clients seek out Life Choices voluntarily for parenting classes while others are ordered by the courts to attend as they seek to make safer choices in the lives of their children. Still others want help in uncertain times about what choices to make for their unborn child.
Advocate Edna Reyes, who provides services to Spanish-speaking clients, said: “We would love to meet you and support you as a parent or expectant parents, and we also want to be sure that dads know they are welcome as we have male client advocates who love to come alongside fathers too. And we are always looking for good volunteers we can train to come alongside and work with our clients.”
For clients who come in pregnant, feeling frightened and alone, Life Choices offers free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds as well as information about fetal development. Their options counseling allows clients to explore their fears and questions regarding abortion, adoption and parenting. For clients who have made the past decision for abortion, Life Choices offers abortion-recovery support.
Life Choices has a baby boutique where clients can shop with “baby bucks” they earn as they complete their educational classes. Clients will find a variety of necessary baby items from diapers to car seats.
One of their recent clients commented on the educational classes saying, “It is all in the name: ‘life’ choices. Their lessons are designed to help you with everyday life, and it has done just that for me. And the diapers and wipes each week are a huge help!”
“Ultimately, Life Choices exists to support, listen to, encourage and educate those in our community who are taking care of the most precious gift—children,” Padgett said. “We rely 100 percent on our local community’s support of Life Choices with their generous donations, resources and volunteering.”
