Girl Scout Troop 10544 will be at the Summer Concert Friday night, June 24, raising awareness, collecting diapers and fundraising for their Bronze and Silver High Awards.

Two members of the Troop are working toward their Bronze Award and three are working to earn their Silver.

The Troop’s project is “Shiny Heinies”; to spread awareness of the high cost of diapers and the impact on families. New Mexico has a diaper tax ranging from 5.12 percent to 8.1 percent, depending on the community, and this tax affects low-income families disproportionately.

The Troop knows they can make a difference by collecting diapers and raising money to help families in need of diapers.

Troop 10544 would like the community to come together and bring diapers to their booth at the Summer Concert Friday night. They will be collecting diapers for babies, elderly and the disabled. They have partnered with LA Cares, the LA Senior Center and All Individuals First to distribute diapers to families in need.

Stop by Troop 10544’s booth Friday night! The girls also will be raising money by doing face painting, hairspray painting, glitter tattoos and nail painting. Each service is $5. Stop by the booth to get painted and bring a package of diapers!
