FUKUOKA -- Vending machines selling diapers have been installed at two parks in the Fukuoka Prefecture city of Koga, which see many family visitors with small children.

According to the Koga Municipal Government, these are the first diaper vending machines to be placed in Fukuoka Prefecture parks. The city hopes that the initiative will encourage families to visit the parks without having to worry about disposable diapers.

The machines are installed at Koga Green Park and Kazurugahama Park. Osaka-based beverage manufacturer Dydo Drinco Inc., which has placed similar vending machines at commercial facilities around Japan, set up one machine at each park on Aug. 1 after receiving permission from the city government.

The vending machines offer baby diapers in packs of two pull-up types in medium and large sizes for 240 yen (about $1.70) a pack and 70-sheet baby wipe packs for 240 yen. Beverages can also be purchased through the machines.

The city government commented, "We installed them to eliminate anxiety among park visitors who forget to bring diapers for their children or run out of them. We believe it will also boost convenience."
