The Minot City approved a one-year agreement with Minot Veterinary Clinic for animal impoundment on Monday.

The city had been utilizing the services of Minot Veterinary Clinic without an agreement for a number of years before entering a one-year contract with the clinic last November. The city sought proposals from within the community in looking to renew the contract once it expires in November.

No entities submitted proposals to offer the service. Consequently, the city contacted Minot Veterinary Clinic, which was interested in entering a new agreement that includes a minor increase to the boarding fee.

The current agreement has a budget of $45,000. Due to the increase in numbers of animals, the estimated budget for the coming year is $70,000, according to information provided to the council.

Conversations with Minot Veterinary Clinic also led to a decision by the police department to buy two animal chip scanners. With the scanners, police can identify and return pets to their owners, saving the cost of impoundment.

In other council business, the mayor signed proclamations declaring Sept. 19-24 as Y’s Men’s PBR Week in appreciation of the work of the organization and to recognize its bull riding event on Sept. 23-24.  The mayor proclaimed Sept. 24-Oct. 2 as Diaper Need Awareness Week, thanking Project BEE and other organizations and their volunteers that distribute diapers and encouraging people to donate.
