Yuhan Kimberly to invest W143b for sustainable production

Yuhan Kimberly, a Korean manufacturer of hygiene products, will invest around 143 billion won ($112 million) over the next two years to foster new sustainable growth engines and a foundation for making innovative products, the company said Friday. The company will use around 43 billion won to create a new facility for spun-bonded fabric manufacturing that is expected to start operating in 2024. The new facility will be able to produce around 12,000 tons of spun-bonded fabric in a year, among which 85 percent will be used within the country and 15 percent will be exported overseas. The spun-bonded fabric, made with fibers that are around a hundredth the thickness of a human hair, will be used to create high quality products such as premium diapers and overnight sanitary pads. Using this fabric to make its hygiene products, Yuhan Kimberly will be able to decrease its use of plastic and carbon emission by 20 percent. The company hopes such use of sustainable materials in its products can contribute in achieving its environmental, social and corporate governance management goal which is to make 95 percent of its sales from environmentally friendly products by 2030. The spun-bonded fabric manufacturing facility will be established at the company’s Daejeon complex which is where diapers, wet tissues, and skin care products for babies are made.
